LRA: Canning Recipe - Dill Pickles

Lesley's favorite dill pickle canning recipe with detailed instructions for proper preservation and flavor.

Instructions

On bottom of jar, place:

  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 2 pieces of carrot (1 inch length)
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 tsp mustard seed
  • 2 slices of jalapeno pepper (optional)
  • Fresh dill

Pack jar with cucumbers

On top of jar put:

  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp pickling spice

Boil 1 cup vinegar to 3 cups water and pour into jar leaving a 1/2” headspace

Wipe and seal

Place the jar in canner with water 1 to 2” above top

Bring to a boil and process for 15 minutes

Remove and cool
